Spaces Between Us
(Gary MacLeman  1-7/Januai/1996)

There are spaces between us       no man can bridge,
there are oceans within them         stars in their depths        stars in their depths.

There’s a fog on the mountains         and the vallies in between,
we are frozen in a fountain        like the silence of a dream       silence of a dream.

(Ch.)  I hear you talk,    I can hear you sing,
reach across that space and leave the message in my dream.
I can hear you sing.

There are spaces within us         no mind can span
there is chaos between us          only stars understand         understand
three caves high on a mountain        light of the full moon
I hear you singing every way I turn   you can’t get here too soon  come too soon

(Repeat Chorus)

I can hear you sing (X several)
No Bitter Tears
(Gary L MacLeman - 4,5,6/2 & 1/3/1995)

D   A   D    Em7  D
D                         A
Snow still lies on frozen ground,
D
Son I miss your laughter,
Em                            G                        D       d c+ b a g f+ e d
You’ve gone with the King to fight the war;
Bm/Em7            Em    Esus4
Winter’s nearly over now,
Bm        g     f+  Bm/Em7
I’ve no seed to sow,
A                                 G       A    f+  d      c+ D   A   D    Em7  D
There’s hunger on this land,       our need is sore:

D                                  A
One night last week as mighty storms,
D
Walked across this hungry land,
Em                  G                       D       d c+ b a g f+ e d
On their thick legs of hail and snow;
Bm/Em7              Em              Esus4
I dreamed I saw your sweet face,
Bm             g   f+    Bm/Em7
Crushed in desert sand,
A                                 G       A    f+  d      c+ D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
In the mud and blood, upon a battlefield;
Em+d   G                      D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
I will   shed no bitter tears:
Em+d   G                      D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
I will   shed no bitter tears:
Em+d   G                      D     A   D    Em7  D
I will   shed no bitter tears:

D                      A
They say it is a holy war,
D
In the name of God,
Em                                 G                  D       d c+ b a g f+ e d
what kind of God would take my son away;
Bm/Em7                       Em               Esus4
There are no men with strength of arm,
Bm                g f+   Bm/Em7
My fields all fallow lie,
A                                 G                         A     f+   d     c+    D   A   D
Em7  D
My cursed roof doth leak and drip, whene’er the chill rain falls:

D                                        A
A weird wind cries through leafless trees,
D
And rushes in all through these walls,
Em                            G                         D       d c+ b a g f+ e d
The old Gods would ne’er have let this pass;
Bm/Em7                   Em      Esus4
Families dead from famine cold,
Bm          g         f+     Bm/Em7
So many young , near all the old,
A                                 G       A  f+   d      c+ D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
There’s hunger on this land,      our need is  sore:
Em+d   G                      D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
I will   shed no bitter tears:
Em+d   G                      D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
I will   shed no bitter tears:
Em+d   G                      D      a g f+ e d c+ b a
I will   shed no bitter tears:
I've included a rough guide as to the chords of this song as
well as the little runs between lines, of course the fiddle
used to it's own thing too and I can't help with that at all. I
tune the guitar somewhat differently for this song by
dropping both the high and low Es to Ds.
In this our first CD, althouh we released a
tape for sale prior to this, only 2 originals were
included. The covers were songs we were
doing at the time and they certainly got us
through our gigs well enough, we paid our
share of royalties to the songwriters of them.
